A BREEZY POEM ON APRIL BY THE FIRST INDIAN NOBLE LAUREATE

 



Rabindranath Tagore is the first Indian Noble laureate and a renowned scholar, well known and admired by many around the world. There are numerous works in Bengali and English and these were translated into many world languages.

 Breezy April is a Romantic Poem written by Rabindranath Tagore in the praise of spring season. In this poem, the speaker is a tree which becomes thrilled and lively when the month of April commences. The poem is an ode, divided into four stanzas having four lines each. There is no rhyme scheme. It is written in open verse.

 Ode is a lyric poem which is addressed to someone or something. Breezy April is an ode addressed to the breeze in the month of April. Tagore narrates the poem appreciating the spring season. In the beginning of the poem, the speaker is a tree which is charmed by the arrival of spring breeze. The speaker expresses the joy that the tree feels and also the breeze teases it and kisses it. The sound of breeze is like a lullaby that a mother sings for her child. The tree has lost all its glory in the winter and was asleep, but when the spring came, the tree came back to life. Its twigs became green and lively, leaves grew and flowers bloomed brightly. The spring breeze hence rejuvenates the tree and nature nourishes everything in the spring. The poem becomes a lyric song that speaks about the beauty of spring breeze its soft touches and the beauty of nature

  Breezy April is a short poem consisting of love for nature. Tagore skillfully coordinates romanticism and April using symbolic and metaphoric language. The effect of winter upon North India is removed with healing touch of April. He uses pliant rhythm and free verse in this poem. The poem contains four quatrains which describes the nature of the poem. Along with that, the poem is written in the romantic style with the help of simple words which will catch the attention of the readers. The rejuvenating April is personified in the poem as a powerful being which can provide rebirth to the entire things upon the earth.

That’s why spring season is welcomed with lot of happiness and every bit of it is enjoyed utmost.
