Friendship is often measured by laughter, shared memories, and standing beside one another during difficult times. But there is another test of true friendship that we rarely talk about—feedback.

Or are you someone who stays silent, even when you know your friend is making a mistake?

When our friends achieve something wonderful, it is easy to congratulate them. We applaud their success, appreciate their efforts, and celebrate their victories. That comes naturally.

The real challenge begins when they are wrong.

Many people choose silence because they fear hurting feelings or damaging the relationship. Others simply nod in agreement, believing that staying on good terms is more important than speaking the truth.

But is that really friendship?

If we genuinely care about someone, we should have the courage to guide them when they are heading in the wrong direction. Honest correction, given with kindness and respect, is not criticism—it is an act of care.

A true friend does not say,
"Do whatever you want."

Instead, a true friend says,
"I think you should reconsider this. I may not be right all the time, but I care enough to share what I see."

Constructive feedback is a responsibility, not a burden.

Many times, a friend's feedback matters more than anyone else's. We trust our friends because we believe they know us well—our strengths, our weaknesses, our dreams, and even our blind spots. In fact, many people rely more on a friend's opinion than on the advice of others before making important decisions. That is why we must be thoughtful, fair, and accurate in our assessment. Our guidance should never be influenced by jealousy, assumptions, or momentary emotions. Instead, it should come from careful observation, honesty, and a genuine desire to see our friend succeed. When someone places such trust in us, offering responsible and sincere guidance becomes a privilege as well as a responsibility.

Of course, feedback should never be harsh, insulting, or given to prove that we are right. It should come from concern, empathy, and a sincere desire to help the other person grow. The intention matters as much as the words.

Likewise, friendship is a two-way street. We should also be willing to receive feedback with an open mind. Listening does not mean agreeing with everything, but it means respecting the person who cares enough to be honest with us.

Simply standing beside someone and watching them make avoidable mistakes is not enough.

Sometimes friendship means stepping forward and saying, "This doesn't seem right."

Sometimes it means offering another perspective before it is too late.

And sometimes it means remaining firm, even if our advice is not immediately accepted.

True friends celebrate our successes, comfort us in our failures, and gently correct us when we lose our way.

That is why friendship is not built merely on agreement. It is built on trust, honesty, and genuine concern for each other's well-being.

The strongest friendships are not those where people always agree. They are the ones where both people feel safe enough to speak the truth, listen with respect, and care for each other in every possible way.

Because in the end, a friend who only applauds your successes is pleasant—but a friend who also guides you away from your mistakes is priceless.

True friendship is not about always agreeing or always praising. It is about caring enough to celebrate each other's successes, correcting each other's mistakes with compassion, and offering honest feedback that helps both friends become better human beings. Stage Lights to Seat Side: A Lifelong Love for the Performing Arts

 

 

Stage Light or Seat Side? I Have Loved Both.

There was a time when the stage lights shone directly on me. Today, I mostly watch from the audience. Yet, my love for the performing arts has remained unchanged.

As a child of about ten, I eagerly looked forward to every opportunity to step onto the stage. If my class teacher announced that someone had to dance to a song or act in the annual day drama, my hand would be among the first to go up. I happily accepted every role and gave it my best.

The applause that followed was my greatest reward. Friends cheered, teachers encouraged me, and family members made it a point to attend the school annual day just to watch me perform. Their appreciation gave me confidence and made every rehearsal worthwhile.

Well, almost every rehearsal!

At home, after school, I would enthusiastically practise my dance steps and expressions. Looking back, I must admit that these rehearsals also became a clever excuse to postpone my homework. Practising for the stage somehow felt much more exciting than solving mathematics or writing essays.

One vacation at my grandparents' town brought another memorable opportunity.

The local performing arts association, or sabha, was staging the well-known story of Krishna and Sudama (Kuchela). Children from the neighbourhood were invited to participate. We played Sudama's children.

It was a simple role with no dialogues. In the opening scenes, dressed in torn clothes, we sat together and ate the porridge served to us, portraying the family's poverty. In the final scenes, after Lord Krishna's blessings transformed Sudama's fortunes, we returned wearing beautiful clothes and enjoying baskets of fresh fruits.

Though it was a small role, it remains one of my fondest childhood memories. My aunts, who were visiting at the time, came especially to watch the performance, making the occasion even more special.

College brought yet another chance to experience the magic of theatre. I became part of a production of The Merchant of Venice. It was wonderful to be involved in a classic Shakespearean play and to experience theatre in a different setting.

As life moved forward, my place gradually shifted.

The stage gave way to the seat.

Instead of performing, I found equal joy in being an attentive audience member. Today, whenever possible, I attend live concerts, music performances, stage plays, dance recitals, and cultural programmes. Watching talented artistes bring stories and music to life is just as fulfilling as standing under the spotlight once was.

Age may have changed my role, but it has never changed my admiration for the performing arts.

Whether under the bright stage lights or seated quietly in the audience, every performance reminds me of the excitement I once felt as a young child waiting for the curtains to open.

Perhaps that is the beauty of the arts.

Sometimes we perform.

Sometimes we applaud.

Both experiences enrich us in their own way.

The stage may belong to someone else today, but my heart still beats in rhythm with every curtain rise, every musical note, and every round of applause. After all, the love for the performing arts never fades—it simply finds a different seat.

Decision Dilemma: How to Make Difficult Decisions with Discipline, Patience, and Faith

 

 

We all dream of a life where decisions are easy. Unfortunately, life doesn't always offer us comfortable choices. Sometimes, we stand at a crossroads where every option carries a consequence, and remaining neutral is simply not possible.

That is what I call a Decision Dilemma.

Taking difficult decisions is never easy. In fact, discipline is not doing what we enjoy—it is doing what needs to be done, even when we don't feel like doing it or when the situation demands something uncomfortable from us.

Facts First, Emotions Later

Whenever I face a difficult decision, I try to keep emotions aside and begin with facts.

I ask myself:

What are the realities of the situation?

What has my past experience taught me?

What could be the long-term outcome?

Experience becomes one of the best teachers. Every challenge faced in the past becomes a guide for the present.

Guidance Is Valuable, But the Decision Must Be Mine

I always seek guidance from a trusted family member—not because I want someone else to decide for me, but because a second perspective helps me see what I might have missed.

One of my family members is a professional Risk Advisor. Naturally, our discussions often involve identifying risks, exploring alternatives, and preparing for possible outcomes. These conversations help me think more clearly.

However, I strongly believe that while suggestions are welcome, the final decision must always be our own.

If we allow others to make our choices, we may end up blaming them later if things don't go as expected. Taking ownership of our decisions also means accepting responsibility for their outcomes.

Sometimes Neutral Is Not an Option

Many times, I wonder why certain situations arise in the first place.

I often wish I could simply remain neutral, stay silent, and avoid choosing sides. But life doesn't always permit that luxury.

There are moments when we must choose the better of two difficult options. The goal is not necessarily to choose what benefits us the most, but what causes the least harm to everyone involved.

A good decision is not always a comfortable decision.

Serious Decisions Should Never Be Rushed

By nature, I am a strict and serious person when it comes to decision-making.

I never like making important decisions in haste and regretting them later. Instead, I prepare myself mentally by considering multiple possibilities.

I usually create options:

Sometimes even more.

Thinking through alternatives gives me confidence and reduces uncertainty. It also prepares me if the first option doesn't work as expected.

This approach has helped me successfully handle many situations that carried significant responsibility.

Continuous Improvement Makes Better Decisions

No one becomes a perfect decision-maker overnight.

Even today, I strive to become more patient. I believe in making small improvements consistently.

Every experience teaches something new:

Be calmer.

Listen more.

Observe carefully.

Think ahead.

Accept uncertainty.

Small improvements eventually lead to wiser decisions.

Challenges Build Strength

Life has presented my family and me with countless situations requiring careful judgment.

Together, we discuss, learn, analyse risks, and face each challenge with determination.

Above all, we place our trust in God.

Our sincere prayer is not only for success but also for wisdom, strength, and peace while making difficult choices.

By God's grace, we have overcome many challenges. At times, I smile and pray, "Thank You for helping us win these battles. If possible, may the challenges become a little fewer so we can pause, breathe, and regain our strength before the next one arrives."

Final Thoughts

Decision dilemmas are a part of life. We cannot escape them, but we can prepare ourselves to face them with wisdom.

A thoughtful decision comes from balancing facts, experience, guidance, responsibility, patience, and faith.

As Social Media Day approaches on June 30, there's one prompt that made me pause and reflect: "Things Social Media Made Normal."

For many, social media is about trends, reels, viral moments, and millions of followers. For me, it has always been something much simpler—a tiny little corner that feels like home.

There's a beautiful saying:

"A home is not measured in square meters, but in warmth."

I feel the same about my presence on social media. It isn't measured by follower counts, blue ticks, or premium subscriptions. It's measured by the comfort of having a space where I can consistently share what I love.

Every day, I share my latest blog post along with its link. It has become a routine that feels natural rather than promotional. My social media pages are simply an extension of my blog—a place where my words can travel a little farther.

Whenever I come across content related to my interests—whether it's about books, food, languages, writing, or blogging—I happily repost or retweet it. Not only does it help the original creator reach a wider audience, but it also benefits fellow bloggers and readers who follow similar interests.

If I find something genuinely useful or inspiring, I don't keep it to myself. I share it with my circle of friends, readers, and followers because valuable information becomes even more meaningful when it's passed on.

One of the biggest advantages social media has given me is staying updated. I discover new book releases, literary festivals, author events, culinary trends, recipes, and discussions that I may never have found otherwise. It has become a wonderful source of continuous learning.

One thing about him is absolutely certain—his walking schedule is sacred. Whether it's the scorching summer heat, pouring rain, or chilly winter mornings, he never skips his walk. For him, commitment doesn't depend on convenience.

Despite living such a simple life, he has a heart filled with beautiful dreams. One of his biggest wishes is to travel around the world—to experience different cultures, meet new people, and appreciate the beauty that humanity has to offer.

I Adapt to the Moment: Finding Balance Between Independence and Togetherness

 

One of the most difficult questions to answer is, “What kind of person are you?” My answer is simple: it depends on the occasion and the work I am involved in.

I do not believe that a person can be defined by a single trait. Different situations bring out different aspects of our personality. The way we behave while working on a creative project may be very different from how we act during a team activity, a celebration, or a family gathering. For me, adaptability is one of the qualities that defines who I am.

Comfortable Working Independently

When I am involved in creative work, I enjoy having my own space to think and create. If someone else is also working on their own project, I am perfectly happy sharing the same room while each of us focuses on our individual tasks.

I can work quietly in one corner while they work in another. I respect their space and concentration, and I appreciate receiving the same consideration in return. This balance allows both of us to remain productive without unnecessary distractions.

Working independently gives me the freedom to explore ideas in my own style, follow my own process, and express creativity in a way that feels natural to me.

Enjoying Teamwork and Collaboration

At the same time, I genuinely enjoy working with others when a task requires teamwork. Collaboration brings together different perspectives, skills, and strengths.

In a team environment, I like coordinating, communicating, and cooperating with others to achieve a common goal. There is something satisfying about seeing a group of people work together successfully and accomplish something that would be difficult to achieve alone.

Rather than focusing only on my own contribution, I enjoy helping the team move forward and ensuring everyone works together effectively.

Thriving in Social Gatherings

My adaptability extends beyond work. During meetings, weddings, festivals, celebrations, and religious ceremonies, I enjoy being part of the group and sharing the experience with others.

These occasions provide opportunities to connect, celebrate, and create memories together. I appreciate the energy and joy that come from being surrounded by people who are enjoying the same moment.

Whether it is a formal gathering or a festive celebration, I am happy to participate and contribute to the positive atmosphere.

Comfortable Alone and With Others

One of the qualities I value most about myself is the ability to be comfortable both alone and with others.

When I am alone, I can focus deeply, work independently, and enjoy my own company. I do not rely on constant interaction to feel productive or fulfilled.

When I am with a group, I can collaborate, communicate, and contribute toward shared success. I enjoy the company of others and appreciate the strength that comes from working together.

Ultimately, the person I am is shaped by the situation I am in and the work I am doing. I can be independent when needed and collaborative when required. I can enjoy solitude and value companionship. I can create on my own and succeed as part of a team.

For me, adaptability is not about changing who I am. It is about bringing the right qualities to the right moment. That flexibility allows me to enjoy both my own company and the company of others, making every experience meaningful in its own way.

I adapt, I contribute, and I enjoy the journey—whether I am walking it alone or alongside others.
