Tomato was in daily use and part of regular diet to many south Indian.
Charu, or Rasam as it is named is a compulsory item in a days menu. Without that the meal is not complete
Rasam is prepared exclusively using tomatoes, spices, salt and water.
For the past few days the price of the tomatoes are soaring new heights which made the main dish miss in the menu.
There are two options to substitute tomato rasam, one is tamarind rasam and the other is toor dal rasam.
For the tamarind rasam in the place of tomato , tamarind is used and rest all the procedure is same as the tomato rasam.
For the toor dal rasam , cook the dal in the pressure cooker and prepare rasam in the same way of tomato rasam using the full dal or just take only the dal water and follow the same procedure. Use the dal for sambhar or any other dish.
These are the ways to have rasam daily inspite of tomatoes absence.
Miss you Tomato !
