On the Twenty fourth Day of the campaign #WRITE A PAGE A DAY, VIDUKATHAI, a game as well as an ancient procedure of evaluating intelligence will be presented in detail. It is also a unique method to educate children about the agriculture, farming, plants, trees, vegetables, fruits and about many other things in life.

 The knowledge about environment is necessary to preserve and protect it. In rural areas of Tamilnadu “VIDUKATHAI” is a medium to propagate the process involved in the production of vegetables and fruits. The necessity to safe guard crops from damages and safety measures to be taken is taught through this game also.

 The “VIDUKATHAI” is mainly to know  about the parts of fruits , vegetables, flowers and the difference between creepers and climbers, classification of vegetables and the season in which it is grown Etc.

 At first basic requirements of the game:

Number of persons: Minimum 2 and Maximum –no limit

Preferred age group: Above the age of 10

Duration of the play: Minimum half an hour.

Best time to play:  Any time of the day

How to play: This game is played by people of all age groups. Mostly elders place a “VIDUKATHAI” before the younger ones and are given due time to answer it. If they are unable to answer within the stipulated time, the answers are revealed first, later samples are shown with due explanations.  The one who answers’ the more number of “Vidukathais’ ” is the winner.






Here are the few examples of VIDUKATHAI

 

1.     Kandu poo pookkum, kaanaamal kaai kaaikkum. Adhu edhu? -

Flowers are visible, but the nut can’t be seen.  What is that? 

2.     Yaarum era mudiyaadha maram, kilaigal illadha maram. Adhu Edhu? -

Unable to climb on this tree which has no branches. What is this? -

3.     Oosi nuzhaiyaadha kinattrile oru padi thanneer.  Adhu edhu?  - 

A well where a needle can’t enter has a litre of water in it .What is that? -

4.     Paatti veettu thottatthil paambu onnu thonguthu.  Adhu edhu? -

A snake is hanging on the canopy of the creeper.  What is that? - .

5.     Udambu illa oruvan patthu sattai anindhiruppaan.  Avan yaar? -

The bodyless one that wears ten numbers of shirts. Who is he?
