Cabbage is a leafy green and white
vegetable highly enjoyed by adults and kids. It goes well with almost all
vegetables and can also be easily shredded to prepare a variety of dishes like
curry, dal, and other side dishes like roti, chapatis, poori, etc. Here is a
recipe for cabbage and moong dal.
INGREDIENTS:
Cabbage
Green chillies
Pepper
Cumin
Moong dal
Coconut
Oil
Turmeric powder
Salt
Mustard seeds
Curry leaves
PREPARATION:
Take a cabbage and shred it. Wash
it in salt water
Take a wok, pour oil, and add
mustard seeds, green chillies, pepper &cumin
Then add cabbage, and turmeric
powder and close it with a lid.
Allow it to cook for some time. Add
moong dal over it when it becomes tender and close it with the lid again.
After some time, open the lid, add
salt and mix well.
When the cabbage and moong dal are
well cooked, add grated coconut and curry leaves.
Mix well and serve hot with rice
or chapatis.
Usually, curry is served as a side
dish to sambhar or Rasam. Here is a special sambhar where lemon is used in the place
of tamarind.
Sambhar is a dish made out of dal,
tamarind, spices and vegetables. For a change and to reap a lot of health
benefits replace lemon in the place of tamarind. Lemon is the best source of
vitamin C -the antioxidant. The sambhar's taste will be delicious.
HOT CABBAGE CURRY WITH GREEN CHILLIES AND
PEPPER & SAMBHAR WITH LEMON will be an excellent combination.
Try this recipe:
INGREDIENTS:
Toor dal or Moong dal (basing on
your preference)
Green chillies
Lemon
Turmeric
Ginger
Coriander leaves
Curry leaves
Red chillies
Red chilli powder
Carrot or capsicum or Ladies
finger (choose any one)
Oil
Mustard seeds
PREPARATION:
Clean, wash and cook Toor dal or
moong dal along with green chillies, grated ginger, carrot or capsicum (If you
are using ladies finger, it should be fried in the pan. Not to be added along
with the dal to cook)
Take a pan, pour oil, add mustard
seeds, red chillies ladies finger (if you using it) and let it fry for some
time. Add turmeric, Red chilli powder and then the cooked dal along with vegetables.
Add salt and let it simmer for some time.
Take a lemon and cut it to extract
the juice. Pour it into the dal and just allow a few seconds to simmer. Switch
off the stove. Add chopped coriander and curry leaves. Close the lid and leave
it for a few minutes. Then serve it along with hot rice, ghee and some curry or
papad.
