A goal or objective is an idea of the future or desired
result that a person or a group of people envision, plan, and commit to achieve.
People endeavour to reach goals within a finite time by setting deadlines.
One reason that goal setting increases happiness is
that goals make you feel more optimistic about the future. When you are
optimistic, you are happier, healthier, more resilient, and better able to cope
in challenging times. And, if you really believe you will reach your goal, you
are more likely to do so.
LIFE AFTER ACHIEVING A GOAL:
First, you feel ecstatic that you accomplished what you set
out to accomplish! It feels great! Your success is tangible (or visible) and
you feel so proud of yourself. And then the feeling fades.
But for many people, making it to the top of whatever
figurative mountain they are climbing can actually lead to feelings of
emptiness, not elation. Those dopamine infusions stop, the sense of purpose
goes away, and many find the empty feeling driving them into a cycle of chasing
more and more achievement.
MY IDEA:
When you complete your goal it is important to reward
yourself for this achievement. Look back over your accomplishments and enjoy
the satisfaction that success brings. This will train the subconscious mind to
focus on activities that produce successful results.
