It can be used to reduce your anxiety if you use it as a distraction and relaxation tool, but it can also increase your anxiety if you watch what most people watch and spend too much time directly in front of the TV when you should be exercising or engaging in other activities.

Socialize, going to the gym, watching TV, browsing internet are the most commonly listed under “hobbies/interests” heading yet they are not hobbies: they are part of a normal life. Wikipedia advises that: A hobby is a regular activity that is done for enjoyment, typically during one's leisure time.
So, then what is watching TV?
Experts say that "TV is a way you can decompress and fill your tank back up," "It can be mindless and entertaining. It can evoke the emotions that make you feel better." TV can play a productive role in your stress management.
In other study, Hills and Argyle (1998) examined the same relationship between viewing TV Soap Opera and happiness, and found no significant relationship. Furthermore, Frey et al. (2007) found that intensive TV users in general reported lower life satisfaction, more material aspirations and a higher level of anxiety.
Where as in another study TV watching is linked to relaxing. In the right circumstances, television may help the brain recharge. A pair of 2012 studies in the journal Social Psychology and Personality Science found that rewatching old favorites can give us a mental boost.
In older people ,TV has links to anxiety and depression as individuals can fall into a perpetual cycle of physical loneliness and increased dependence on electronic entertainment, contributing to further self-isolation. Another contributor to anxiety and depression is insomnia related to screen time.
It's no surprise that the sedentary behavior of binge-watching TV can negatively impact our physical health, but recent studies show it's also a bad habit for long-term brain health and function.
Limit the time you spend watching TV. Try setting timers to keep yourself disciplined or set a certain day of the week that you watch a particular show. Use your favorite shows to reward yourself after you have completed a set task or necessary work. Delete streaming apps on your devices.
Reduce the time you watch TV and try to incorporate physical activity, Reading books, learning new skill etc for a fit physical and mental health.
