We depend on clocks for our routine activities, to wake up in the morning to sleep at night. It helps to be everywhere on time such as leaving for work, leaving work to go home, attend meetings during the day, catch up with friends in the evening or any other virtual social commitments we have. So, wall clocks are a must in every house hold.
Most wall clocks are analog, meaning that they have moving hands that show you the time. Some analog clocks use Arabic numbers, while others use Roman numerals. A digital wall clock is a wall clock that displays the time digitally, often using numbers to represent the time.
Among these the oldest is a grandfather wall clock which uses a pendulum for timekeeping.
A pendulum clock is a clock that uses a pendulum, a swinging weight, as its timekeeping element. The advantage of a pendulum for timekeeping is that it is an approximate harmonic oscillator: It swings back and forth in a precise time interval dependent on its length, and resists swinging at other rates.
From its invention in 1656 by Christiaan Huygens until the 1930s, the pendulum clock was the world's most precise timekeeper. Pendulum clocks had to be stationary and level to operate. Any motion or accelerations will affect the motion of the pendulum causing loss or gain of pendulum speed and beat.
Pendulum clocks were more than simply utilitarian timekeepers; due to their high cost they were status symbols that expressed the wealth and culture of their owners. They evolved in a number of traditional styles, specific to different countries and times as well as their intended use.
For pendulum clock , living room is the best location to keep the whole family on time. Beside, the living room often has the most space, biggest walls and highest ceilings in a house, making it the ideal place to display a truly artistic, large statement clock.
