INK ART - AN INCREDIBLE ART FORM

Ink art or pen drawing is an artwork executed wholly or in part with pen and ink, usually on paper. Pen drawing is fundamentally a linear method of making images. Traditional black drawing ink, which originated in Asia and is therefore often referred to as India ink or Chinese ink, consists of very fine particles of carbon pigment, usually lampblack (soot), dispersed in an aqueous solution with a glue or gum binder.
For thousands of years, India ink has been used as an expressive medium for painting, drawing, lettering, and tattooing. This permanent ink is traditionally an opaque black, being made with lampblack, a pigment derived from soot.
Probably the most renowned ink, Indian ink is a permanent, opaque black. It mixes well with other colours, adding a cool, dense tint. It flows well on paper, producing strong, crisp black lines which makes it popular across many genres.
Four types of ink derived from natural substances traditionally have been used for drawing: carbon-based or lamp black, iron gall, bistre, and logwood.

Ink art played an essential role in diverse artistic disciplines as trade routes developed: it is essential to tattoo culture, one of the bases of comic drawing, and artists have used it in their sketches throughout history. Each country has taken advantage of its versatility to adapt it to their customs and styles. The English, for example, imported it from India, hence its English name. But no matter what you call it: just remember that every time you use it, whether it's to ink a comic book, to touch up a portrait or to design a tattoo, you're participating in a thousands of years old story.

Indian ink drawings are drawings in which Indian ink is used to obtain strong contrasts and saturated hues. A pen is often used as the drawing instrument in Indian ink drawings because lines of varying thickness and intensity can be made with it to achieve different effects as desired.

Ink wash is an expressive form of drawing in the Ink art. Wash painting involves using a brush to apply water-based ink to a surface, creating bold washes of colour and adding interest with layers and textures.
Indian ink is often underappreciated as a medium for painting. But the results can be stunning with bold dark black brushstrokes that can be varied from thick to thin in the very same brush movement.
Ink drawing describes the process of using ink as a medium to create fine artwork. They are considered an invaluable tool for artists due to their dark colour, compatibility, and permanence. Different types of ink can be used in a drawing, and each has its properties. Ink art is a priceless art .
