To create an eco friendly home for sustainable living it is important to use the products that are good for the environment and should be successful in being harmless too. One such product is BIO GAS.
First and foremost let us read few lines about bio gas. How it is produced? Can that be used for cooking? and also get to know about a home using this product successfully.
BIO GAS:
Biogas is a renewable fuel produced by the breakdown of organic matter such as food scraps and animal waste.
Instead of letting the wastes rot in landfills, it is more advantageous to utilize and turn them into biogas. An environmental hazard is reduced due to lesser methane, carbon dioxide, and other greenhouse gases produced. These are utilized as fertilisers and also to produce electricity and used for heating and cooking.
Biogas is comprised primarily of methane and carbon dioxide. It also contains smaller amounts of hydrogen sulphide, nitrogen, hydrogen, methylmercaptans and oxygen. Biogas originates from bacteria in the process of bio-degradation of organic material under anaerobic (without air) conditions.
BIO GAS FOR COOKING:
Organic waste (mainly cow dung) is converted in an underground bio-digester into methane gas for cooking. About 2 cows are needed to provide an average household with sufficient gas for cooking on a daily basis. Cooking with biogas is clean, there is no release of harmful smoke.
Upgraded and purified biogas can be transported from the location of production to a filling station by means of the public gas grid, a local gas pipeline or by trucks (in case there is no gas grid available). Depending on the gas grid operating pressure the gas needs to be pressurised.
Once the digester starts its operation (between 30 to 60 days), it produces around 4 - 5 hours of biogas daily, for cooking.
BIO GAS IN LPG CYLINDERS:
It is proved that biogas can be compressed, stored in LPG cylinder and made transportable. To make biogas suitable for cooking application it is compressed up to 4 bar after purification, moisture removal and filled in LPG cylinder.
Chemically Bio LPG is identical to LPG though it is created using a variety of biological feedstocks including waste streams. In addition to being good for environment, the transition from LPG to Bio LPG is simple. It is used in exactly the same way as LPG and can be dropped into an existing supply.
IS BIOGAS SAFE ?
Biogas is more safer than CNG and 3 times more safer than LPG Cylinder.
