GAME 17
On the Seventeenth Day of the campaign
#WRITEAPAGEADAY, “KOLAI KOLAIYAA MUNDHIRIKKAA” an ancient game fondly played by
children will be presented in detail. It is a highly popular and widely played
game in schools and at home in villages. Both girls and boys participate and
have a great fun time.
At first basic requirements of the game:
Number of persons:
Minimum 10
Preferred age group: Above the age of 10
Duration of the play: Minimum half an hour
Best time to play: Evenings or at nights
Place to play: on the floor
Things required to play: a hand towel
How to play: with the toss, the game starts and all the players
sit in a circle facing each other except the one who is out in the toss. He/she
will be standing out and will run around the circle with the hand towel as the game
begins,
The runner will be sing: “Kolai
kolaiyaa mundhirikkaa”
Then, in response to him, players sitting will sing: “Niraiya niraiya sutthi vaa”
Runner: Kollai
adicchavanai kandup pidi”
Players: “Enge”
Runner: “Veettukkulle”
After the song ends the runner will leave the hand
towel behind one of the player sitting in the circle. If he/she fails to notice
the towel, the runner will slap his/her back and initiates him to run and
he/she will occupy his place in the circle.
If he/she notices the hand towel behind him/her,
he/she should take it and run behind the runner and should touch him/her to
make him/her out. Then he/she will be out of the game. Again the same procedure
is followed and the game continues till 5 players are out. Not only running and
catching the player, but all should sing their lines of the song properly in
order to be not out.
Reference to this game: Reference to this game can be found in the films
where this game is played by school or college students when out for a tour or
picnic.
