Many standardised tests use sentence completion exercises to test the candidate's comprehension, vocabulary and logic. Sentences need to be completed choosing one or two words words from the options given.
Though most of the words may seem to fit the context, the most relevant and the ones pertaining to the topic of discussion need to be chosen that best complete the meaning of the sentence as a whole.
Linking devices and punctuation marks provide a vital clue to the selection of the right word(s). In the double blank type, one word may give the clue to the other and hence it becomes easier to complete the sentence.
