5 POINTS ON ‘I CAME FROM THERE”

 

1.    Mahmoud Darwish was a Palestinian poet and author who won numerous awards for his literary output and was regarded as the Palestinian National poet.

2.    He published his first book poetry, Asafir bila ajniha or Wingless Birds, at the age of nineteen.

3.    ‘’I CAME FROM THERE” is a poem by Mahmoud Darwish and it deals with the poet’s anguish and his desire to assert his Palestinian identity.

4.    The poem opens with the pleasant memories of home that the poet carries with him in a distant and far off land. Now, his heart is left with a longing to be known, to belong, and to experience the true meaning of home.

5.     The poem explores the themes of loss and a sense of ‘’rootlessness.” The Israel- Palestine conflict serves as a backdrop to the poem.
