story-teller, who spent his life in Norway and Britain. He was educated in
England.
2. He served as an RAF pilot during the
Second World War, after which he began his writing career.
3. His works include JAMES AND THE GIANT
PEACH, CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, THE MAGIC FINGER, MATILDA and THE
TWITS.
4. He was awarded the 1983 Whit bread
Award and the Boston Globe-Horn Books Award for excellence in Children’s
Literature in 1985.
