(shepherd) kudi (dwelling place), which aligns itself with the settlement of
pastoralists in the "Mullai" land of the Sangam landscape.

Guava (or) Koyya in Tamil
is the fruit with the most health benefits, it has four times of vitamin C
content compared to Orange.
The fruits are round to
pear-shaped and measure up to 7.6 cm in diameter; their pulp contains
many small hard seeds (more abundant in wild forms than in cultivated
varieties). The fruit has yellow skin and white, yellow, or pink flesh.
If both rainy and winter season
crops are taken, more yields may be obtained in the rainy season. Guavas are
harvested throughout the year (except during May and June) in one or the
other region of the country.
While guava can be grown from
seed, it will not be true to the parent and may take up to eight years to
produce fruit. Trees are more commonly propagated via cuttings and layering. In
this case, guava tree fruiting should occur when the tree is three or four
years of age.
Guava is successfully grown in tropical
and subtropical climates. Although guava
tolerates drought, protective irrigation facilities are required.
Concerning the cultivation of guava
in Tamil Nadu, Ayakudi stands among the best places for its cultivation. The
existence of Ayakudi Guava and Fruits Producer Company Ltd is proof of this.
In your next trip to Tamil Nadu, do
include Ayakudi in your itinerary.
Interesting pot!
