AN ANCIENT TEMPLE WHERE UTANKA MUNI WORSHIPPED

The Divya kshetram TIRU VAIKUNTA VINNAGARAM is located in Tirunangur 8 km from Sirkazhi in Tamil Nadu. This is one of the 11 Divya desams sung by Tirumangai Azhwar. The presiding deity here is Vaikuntanatha Perumal in a seated posture. The Goddess is Vaikuntavalli. The sacred water is Lakshmi Pushkarini and the sanctum sactorum is Ananathasatyavarthaga vimanam. This kshetram is believed to be on par with vaikuntam.

Legend has it that Utanka Muni worshipped Lord Vishnu at this kshetram. Lord Vishnu appeared before Lord Siva when he performed Ekadasa Rudra Ashwamedha Yagam.
