THE COLOURFUL CONNECTION OF CRACKERS AND DIWALI

Diwali and fireworks are almost synonymous with each other and they are inseparable too. Over time, fireworks assumed religious significance of symbolizing the victory of good over evil and got tagged along with Diwali too, as well as other festivals. Bursting crackers during Diwali later gained further prominence with the coming up of Sivakasi as the Fireworks Inc for India.

Firecrackers are often used to celebrate special occasions, such as Diwali, New Year's Eve, weddings, and other festivals. They add to the festive mood and create a sense of excitement. In some cultures, firecrackers are believed to ward off evil spirits and bring good luck.

But on the other side,

Firing crackers on Diwali increase the concentration of dust and pollutants in the air. After firing, the fine dust particles get settled on the surrounding surfaces which are packed with chemicals like copper, zinc, sodium, lead, magnesium, cadmium and pollutants like oxides of sulfur and nitrogen.

Bursting crackers produce smoke which creates environmental issues, health hazards and loud noises. Crackers also contribute to 'smog'. Smog is a mixture of smoke and fog.

Considering the side effects of bursting crackers and serious consequences the government has directed to burst green firecrackers for two hours, between 8 pm to 10 pm on Diwali and for Chhath puja, the time frame is 6 am to 8 am.

Do follow the instructions and understand that Crackers cause a lot of air and sound pollution, which are harmful for humans as well as animals. The waste generated by crackers is harmful for disposal.

Thus, as we gear up to celebrate the special day, let's plan to celebrate Diwali without crackers.

Do share your special plans in the comments so that we can also include it in our Diwali celebrations.

HAPPY DEEPAVALLI TO ALL OF YOU
