MEENA ALEXANDER- AN INDIAN FEMINIST WRITER

 


Meena Alexander, (born February 17, 1951, Allahabad, India—died November 21, 2018, New York, New York, U.S.), Indian poet and teacher whose works reflect her multicultural life in India, Sudan, and the United States.
In 1993, Alexander published her autobiographical memoir, Fault Lines, and published an expanded second edition in 2003, with new material that addressed her previously-suppressed memories of childhood sexual abuse by her maternal grandfather and her reflections on the September 11 attacks.
Meena is a genuine diasporic voice expressing her own life's diasporic experiences in her poetry uprooting and exile, alienation and identity, migrant memories and traumas, separation and loneliness all the way from India to Sudan and USA.
Alexander's great  works include the novels Manhattan Music (1997) , Nampally Road (1991)
 the essay collections -Poetics of Dislocation (2009) and 
The Shock of Arrival: Reflections on Postcolonial Experience (1996), as well as
 the critical studies -Women in Romanticism.
Meena Alexander is known as an Indian feminist writer who has produced a modern commentary on Mary Wollstonecraft's The Vindication of the Rights of Women. Her novella Nampally Road is a look at the fight for independence in India following the partition of Pakistan.
