A TEMPLE AND THE CELESTIAL NECTAR

The Divya kshetram TIRUMOGUR is located 10 kms near Madurai in Tamilnadu.  The presiding  deity is Kaalamega perumal in a standing posture, and the goddess is Thayar Mohanavalli. The sacred water is Ksheerapti pushkarani and the sanctum sanctum is Ketaki vimanam.

The legend has it that Vishnu on the Mohini avataram distributed the celestial  nectar Amritham to the Devas, and hence this place is also called Mohanashetram. It is  believed  that Pulastya Muni had the vision of the Lord at this kshetram.

The temple has beautiful  carvings and the idol of Chakratazhwar is the one of the masterpieces.  During the Brahmostavam in Vaikasi (May 15 - June 15), Mohini avataram is enacted.
