WHAT IS A SUFFIX?




A suffix, also  called a postfix or ending, is an affix which is placed after the stem of a word. It is an affirmative as it can alter the form of the word to which it is fixed. Suffixes can carry grammatical information or lexical information . Some inflectional suffixes are -s,-ed,-t,-ing,-en,-es,-er, -est, -n't.

Some derivational suffixes are -ian, -ise, -fly, -ly, -able, -ible, -hood, -ness, -less, -ism, -ment, -ist, -al, -ish.


Examples :
-eme - morpheme
-en - golden
-ate- concentrate
-archy - anarchy
-ness - darkness
-wise - clockwise
