28 INTERESTING GAMES TO PLAY AT HOME-GAME-2

 GAME –2

On the Day two of the campaign #WRITE A PAGE A DAY, BAMBARAM a popular game highly played and enjoyed by the youth of Tamil Nadu in those days will be presented in detail. It is mostly the favourite game of left handers. They exert huge power of their arms and strike the bambaram easily and stand a chance to be the winner of the game.  It is a game played often in the front and back yards of the house.

At first basic requirements of the game:

Number of persons: Minimum 2 and Maximum 6.

Preferred age group: Above the age of 10.

Duration of the play: Minimum half an hour.

Best time to play: Evenings (3.00 to 5.00pm)

Preferred surface: soil surface. Can be played in the garden. (Avoiding smooth flooring is better as it may cause scratches and floor damage)

Things required to play: Bambaram - A top made of Wood or Plastic, one meter rope.

How to play: First draw a circle with a diameter of 60cms approximately. Players should spin their tops and be able to lift it with the help of the rope. The one who is unable to lift it or the one whose top failed to spin for long time is supposed to keep his top inside the circle.

The rest of the 5 (when 6 people are playing) will try to spin their tops one by one inside the circle and should bring the inserted top out of the circle along with his top. In case if he is unable to bring both the tops out of the circle, then the two tops will be inside the circle. The following players should try to bring the tops out- side the circle to be declared a winner.

The tops are also played differently in different regions of the state of Tamil Nadu. Few spin the top in the air and palm.  Bambaram is played in teams with two members in each team. In many cases the breakage of the tops is possible because of faster spin and dashing with each other. The mastery of the game of Bambaram lies in holding the knot of the rope in between the fingers which will enable to release and lift the tops easily.

Reference to this Game:  In Tamil Literature and  in movies bambaram is used as a simile to the eyeballs.  There are famous songs with the word "Bambaram"
