5 POINTS ON MASAHNI



 1. B.P. Sathe, (1910-73)  is a well-known short-story writer, essayist and translator in Dogri. Dogri is the language of about five million Dogras inhabiting the mountainous areas of north-west India. Today Dogra is one of the twenty-two languages recognised by the sahitya Akademi. Sathe's well known short story collections are Pehla Phull and Khali Gode.

2. B.P. Sathe's MASAHNI is translated from Dogri  to English by Shivanath. MASAHNI decribes the story of a young bride who comes to live in Ramnagar, having married into a washermen family.

3. Young and attractive, Rahim Bibi, is the cynosure of all eyes with her unsung beauty as she readily fits into her role of  a dutiful daughter -in -law.

4. However, her beauty and happiness are fated to be short lived as her health deteriorates most rapidly and she becomes the victim of Pneumonia.

5. The story has its own rare charm and suspense as it seeks to unfold the relentless curiosity and determination of the boy- hero seeking to fulfill his wildest dream.
