TWENTY POINTS READ ON WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY


     Every Year June 5th is observed as WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY. On this occasion today let’s get to know few points concerning Environmental issues.

·       The term “”Bio diversity”” refers to the totality of genes, species and ecosystem of a region. It is an abbreviation of Biological diversity.

·       Biological diversity includes three major hierarchical levels, such as species diversity, genetic diversity and community and ecosystem diversity. These levels of biodiversity are interrelated.

·       Diversity at the levels of community and ecosystem has three perspectives- alpha, beta and gamma diversity.

·       The concept of Biosphere Reserve was launched in 1975 as a part of UNESCO’S Man and Biosphere Programme, dealing with the conservation of ecosystems and the genetic resources contained therein.

·       Conservation, development, scientific research, monitoring and Education are chief functions of Biosphere Reserves.

·       JIM CORBETT NATIONAL PARK was the first National Park established in India.

·       The WORLD CONSERVATION UNION and the WORLD-WIDE FUND FOR NATURE (WWF) support project world-wide to promote conservation and appropriate development of Biosphere Reserves.

·       Reiter was the first to coin the term ECOLOGY

·       Ecology is the study of interrelations between organisms and their environment.

·       RAMDEO MISHRA is known as “Father of Ecology in India.””

·       Any substance which causes pollution is called POLLUTANT

·       B.O.D. test is made for measuring water pollution
.
·       SO2 is the most harmful pollutant.

·       Ocean is the most stable ecosystem

·       Ultraviolet radiation from sunlight causes the reaction that produces Fluorides.
·       Ozone layer depletion or hole in Ozone layer is being chiefly found in South Pole.

·       Acid deposition causes Lakes and forests to die.

·       Water pollution is caused by Industrial effluents.

·       Thermal pollution of water body is due to Discharge of heat (Hot water) from power plants.

·       Soil conservation can  be best achieved by GOOD PLANT COVER
