A type of cereal plant with bristly heads, the
grains of which are used in brewing and animal feed. The barley grains are
mostly used to prepare malts. It is best grown in temperate climates. Both
alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are
prepared using barley. It has got many medicinal values and helps to
cure functional disorders. Consuming
barley on a regular bases reaps many health benefits. Barley supplies reach
amount of essential nutrients. Barley is used in soups, stews, porridges and in
various bread preparations.
Summer is the hottest of all the seasons and
requirement for more liquid foods is high. Tender coconuts and cool drinks are
the available choices. Other than these, the homemade drinks are the best bet
as they more safe &hygienic. Squash, cordials, sharbat, buttermilk are the ones
that are meant for summer season’s thirst. Let’s see the method of preparation
of lime barley water:
^^ Take well ripened lemons and extract juice.
Filter to remove seeds and other materials.
^^ In the ratio of 1:2, take the required
quantity of sugar and dissolve it in water to make sugar syrup. (1 lemon juice:
2 Sugar)
^^ Add lemon juice to the sugar syrup &
allow it to cool.
^^In the ratio of 2:1, take the measured
barley and dissolve it in the water and cook it till it becomes paste. (2 lemon
juice: 1 barley)
^^ Mix the barley paste in the prepared content
and stir well to avoid any thick mass of barley.
^^The prepared whole barley water is then
transferred into clean sterilised bottles with proper lid.
^^ store the bottles in a cool and dry place.
^^ It can also be kept in a Refrigerator.
