A sitcom is short for “situation comedy.” It's a funny TV show with a realistic setting, like an apartment full of wacky roommates or a restaurant where a regular cast of characters cracks jokes from week to week. Sitcoms have been around since people began rolling their eyes at laugh tracks.
Instead of showing crazy or unreal
stuff, sitcoms focus on regular people dealing with normal problems. This
makes it feel like you are watching something that could happen to you. The
characters often remind us of people we know.
Sitcoms hold a unique place in our
hearts for various reasons, including familiarity, nostalgia, the power of
laughter, escapism, emotional resonance, and a sense of continuity. These
components work together to produce an emotional bond that makes sitcoms seem
familiar.
With short-length episodes and a
loose storyline that makes a show easy to follow even if watched in
non-sequential order, sitcoms are highly rewatchable and often the kind of show
that people have in the background while doing something else.
With their relatable characters
and feel-good humor, sitcoms offer a fictional world where any problems
can be resolved by the end of a thirty-minute episode.
While they may change settings or
situations, most sitcoms have the same recognizable, light-hearted mood. Their
conflicts are only slightly stressful, lasting no longer than the span of one
episode. That is why they continue to be so many people's comfort shows.
Either way, the loveable
characters and hijinx inherent to sitcoms make for cozy companions, especially
when feeling lonely.
A successful sitcom is like a big
house filled with funny, topical storylines, memorable, identifiable
characters, and many laugh-out-loud jokes.
One such sitcom that makes me laugh out loud is Sumit Sambhal Lega, watch full episodes here
