FATHERS DAY
GREETINGS TO MY APPA
Both my
grandparents are right-handed but my father is a left-hander. He is interested in
Music & Telugu literature. He enjoys reciting Wordsworth's poem recollection
of childhood and Long Fellows’ footprints on the sands of time. He is more organized
& good at singing. My father being a left-handed made us realize that
Children of
left-handed parents are more likely to be left-handed than are children of
right-handed parents. However, because the overall chance of being left-handed
is relatively low, most children of left-handed parents are right-handed.
Lefties make
up only about 10 percent of the population, but studies find that individuals
who are left-handed score higher when it comes to creativity, imagination,
daydreaming, and intuition. They're also better at rhythm and visualization.
Left-handedness
occurs in about 8% of the human population. It runs in families and an
adoption study suggests a genetic rather than an environmental origin; however,
monozygotic twins show substantial discordance.
Left-handed
people have divergent thinking which means they will look at a
problem with a bird's eye view and form several possibilities of solutions
rather than countering the problem with one logical black-and-white solution.
They tend to follow their creative intuition to process the information at
hand.
An article
goes on to highlight that left-handed people can come up with multiple
options for solutions to problems and often do not see things in black and
white. The article also suggested that they may be more independent because
their left-handedness sets them apart from many of their peers.
Researchers say the steadily low percentage of
lefties "is a result of the balance between cooperation and
competition in human evolution." Humans have long had an evolutionary need
to cooperate, such as when sharing tools or hunting in groups.
Left-handed people are said to be good at complex reasoning,
resulting in a high number of lefty Noble Prize winners, writers, artists,
musicians, architects, and mathematicians. According to research published in
the American Journal of Psychology, lefties appear to be better at divergent
thinking.
Neurological
research shows that left-handed people have a larger corpus callosum, the
part of the brain that facilitates communication between the two hemispheres.
This can lead to advantages in tasks that require multitasking and cognitive
flexibility.
Fathers teach us specially and are always by our side as the protector, the
provider, and the disciplinarian.
