THE JUNGLE BOOK - ALL TIME FAVOURITE

JUNGLE BOOK BY RUDYARD KIPLING is one of my favourite book in my collection of books. I read this book and had the privilege of watching all the episodes as a serial broadcasted in DD National. At first I enjoyed it more as  a serial . At a later date received the book as a gift on one occasion. Then I started reading it and realised that it is more interesting, engaging and enjoyable than a TV serial.

Rudyard Kipling was one of the most acclaimed writers, of both prose and verse, of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His exposure to the native languages of the sub -continent greatly influenced his writing style and clearly reflects in his works. He is fondly remembered for his tales and poems . Among his many wonderful works, My favourites are "The Jungle Book", "Kim" and "If".

Kipling's significant contribution to the field of Literature won him the Nobel Prize in 1907, making him the first English language writer, and the youngest till this date, to receive the prize.

Kipling takes the readers to the world of fantasy through an adventurous journey in the jungle crossing one thrilling escapade to the other.

Here are few paragraphs that allure me to go back to the book often and I love reading these again and again :

" Nobody comes to Novastoshnah except on business and the only people who have regular business there, are the seals. They come in the summer months by hundreds and hundreds of thousands out of cold, grey sea; for Novastoshnah Beach has the finest accommodation for seals of any place in all the world."

"The big parade of  all thirty thousand men was held that afternoon, and Vixen and I had a good place close to the Viceroy and the Amir of Afghanistan, with high, big black hat of astrakhan wool and the great diamond star in the centre. The first part of the review was all sunshine, and the regiments went by in wave upon wave of legs all moving together, and guns all in a line, till our eyes grew dizzy."

" He turned twice or thrice in  a big circle, weaving his head from right to left. Then he began making loops and figures of eight with his body, and soft, oozy triangles that melted into squares and five -sided figures, and coiled mounds, never resting, never hurrying, and never stopping his low, humming song."

" Mowgli was far and far through the forest, running hard, and his heart was hot in him. He came to the cave as the  evening mist rose, and drew breath, and looked down the valley. The cubs were out, but Mother Wolf, at the back of the cave, knew by his breathing that something was troubling her frog."
