WHY WE WELCOME WINTER?

Climate in South India is generally warmer, and more humid due to its coastlines. Though the Tropic of Cancer—the boundary that is between the tropics and subtropics—passes through the middle of India, the bulk of the country can be regarded as climatically tropical.

Chennai features a tropical wet and dry climate. Chennai lies on the thermal equator and is also coastal, which prevents extreme variation in seasonal temperature. For most of the year, the weather is hot and humid.
The average Relative Humidity of Chennai is around 75% although it vary from around 67% during Monsoon (June) to 81% during the Post-Monsoon (November). The most humid month of the year is November with humidity varies from 59.1% to 96.9%.
The loose clothing of Chennai is perfect for countering the humidity of the city's climate, while  the white colour and cotton fabric help deal with the heat and sun.
Winter season begins in the month of December and continues till February. The average temperature during this season is around 18°C.
With these lines you have clearly understood the weather condition of my city -CHENNAI. Many here in this city are happy to welcome the winter season - the season of comfort.  Main feature being  respite from heat and sweat.
MY FAVOURITE THINGS ABOUT WINTER ARE:
* Shawl : Time to take out the hand woven shawl  and roam around wrapping it . This brings back the fond memories of the trip to the hill station where it was brought right from the weaver.
*The  demanding need to use the vaseline petroleum jelly and  moisturizing body lotion makes all of us to maintain a skin care routine which is Absolutely missed rest of the time.
* Kashmiri woolen top shawl -  gifted by my maternal uncle after his Kashmir trip is a most valuable possession of mine. Once in a year I take it out and wear during the winter. It 's nostalgic.

*  Time to rest cotton : Comfortably wear silk, tussar and other designer sarees apart from cotton ones which we all mostly wear in Chennai in most of the months in a year.
*Everything is mesmerizing, the relief from heat, radiation &hot air  which is replaced with  cold winds, foggy mornings,& chilly nights. These are all inexplicable joys one experiences in this wonderful winter
*More over this is the season  in this city when one can rightly enjoy the hot foods served on the plate.
*Though we never witnessed snow in this season, still winter is the time to focus on all the things around without feeling sweaty & itchy.
* Days are short and nights longer. Happy to view lights illuminated everywhere in the evenings and little extra time to sleep.
*Above all  Looking forward to the new year .
O Wind, If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?
