BOOK REVIEW OF "CHUCKLE MERRY SPIN"

Author : Khyrunnisa .A
Publisher: Westland Books
Genre: Food and Travel

Made a trip happily laughing, is finely dictated using an adjective and two verbs that turned out as CHUCKLE MERRY SPIN.  As informing and easily understandable title is the entire book.  Exact words in exact places and experiences shared meticulously are the crisp words of praise for the author and the book.

Highly enjoyable and relatable situations so practically addressed as well as expressed without any exaggerations and extremes' makes this a wonderful read for all ages.  Especially the senior citizens feel happy and not out of reason or different as all experience the  same situations and react in the same way in a foreign land they are not alone in this journey.  Getting accustomed to few new practices and customs takes times and when implied with understanding it becomes easy.

The book CHUCKLE MERRY SPIN by Khyrunnisa. A . explores the experiences and exuberance of her along with her husband VK during their trip to U.S.  She is an award winning author of children's fiction.  Her first book for adults - the bestselling collection of essays, Tongue In Cheek: The Funny Side of Life - continues to regale readers. She is a full time author and lives in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Illustrator Priya Kuriyan has done the cover. It admirably complements the story.

The author and her husband leave for U.S. to take part in their daughter-in-law's graduation ceremony. Their preparations for travel, their flight, and their stay in U.S. with their son and Daughter-in-law is the main focus of the book.  It also paints a vivid picture of the America, its people and their lifestyle.

How they both spend their days during their trip to the foreign land, How their son and Daughter-in-law accompanied them to various places, What are all alike and distinct from their motherland are all described with grace and grin, the author shared their memories of the trip majestically with the readers.

The author is successful in bringing in all the features of  a travelogue like  vivid descriptions of the place they're traveling in, descriptions of the subjective experiences of visiting a place (their thoughts, blunders, fears), informed commentary about a place (its history and culture), and accounts of their interactions with local people. This makes it quite interesting and engaging.

Travel Writing or Travelogue is an old canon of Literature, dealing with nature writing, adventure writing, exploration writing, guide books etc. Even the Picaresque form of novel had elements of travel writing in it.

Of travel literature on its topographical side, we have Sir Martin Conway on the Andes and Spitzbergen, Sir Harry Johnston supplements  Stanley's  pictures of African life, and Mr. A. H. Savage Lendor has added greatly to our knowledge of Eastern people; on the psychological side Fielding Hall in his Soul of a People, and Lafeadio Hearn, a genuine literary artist, in his studies of Japanese life strike a fresher and more original note in travel literature.
The adventurous spirit in our Literature had been practically confined to that extra ordinary mixture of outrageous fable and genuine travel entitled the Travels of Sir John Mandeville; that had sufficed during the Middle Ages to satisfy the craving for wonders beyond our narrow seas. Later Americanwriter Paul Theroux has published many works of travel literature, the first success being The Great Railway Bazaar.
In this list of travelogues, CHUCKLE MERRY SPIN is also sure to leave an lasting impact on readers and will stand as a paradigm to Travel Writing.

  8. Seems like an interesting book! Your review is fantastic and almost as if narrating the story yourself. When the story is a personal narrative of the Authors own journey it makes the book more enticing. Will add this to my TBR
