As we are all on to reading many blog rolls to complete our reading list as part of the #My friend Alexa2021. I thought to share few points on reading a book from the book "Reading Smart: Advanced Techniques for improved Reading", by Nicholas Reid Schaffzin, is an easy -to- use guide to help readers improve their reading speed and enhance their comprehension.
*The author puts forth some of the techniques to be adopted by the readers in order to make the reading efficient and effective such as making markings in the book, pre-reading and the need to think about what one wants to take away from it.
* Nick Schaffzin while pointing out poor reading habits such as sub vocalization, reading with hands and regression suggests ways to overcome these inadequacies. He illustrates how these inefficient behaviours could slow down the reading speed.
* According to the author the best way to improve reading skills is to identify the reason for reading a particular text. It is not enough if one knows "What" one is reading, it is equally important to understand "Why" one reads a text and "What" one intends to get out of one's reading.
*Some of the questions to be asked are, "What amount of knowledge does one intend to acquire and for what purpose." One has to understand whether one is reading a text merely for pleasure or is one going to be tested on the contents. The author concludes by saying that the purpose behind reading a text defines the type of reading to be practised.

If you're reading to find out specific details about anything, you tend to read more effectively. This is my experience.
ReplyDeleteYES, I agree with you
ReplyDeleteThis is actually a different prospect of reading. Reading must be adopted as an exercise.
ReplyDeleteIt depends on the purpose behind reading.
DeleteWhile doing e-courses, they call it close reading which basically means you read a text first and then go through what the professor is explaining. That way, your reading is more effective. I really liked point 1 of setting intentions.
