1. Many birds can be housed in an outdoor aviary for at least part of the year in temperate climes.
2. The birds are essentially confined to two sections: the flight and the shelter
3. The flight is an area, partially open to the elements, where birds have a certain amount of freedom to fly.
4. The shelter is protected from the elements; here birds are fed and encouraged to roost.
5. A third section, the safety porch, allows the keeper to enter the aviary without birds escaping.
