3 POINTS ON COMPACT DISC

1. Launched in 1982, compact discs store sound as a sequence of millions of tiny pits, which capture the sound wave as a series of digital codes.

2. As the disc spins, the CD player uses a laser beam to read the sequence of pits, and recreates the original waveform from the digital codes.

3. Once amplified, this wave form drives a loudspeaker, reproducing the sound.
