4 POINTS ON FENCING

 



1. The sport of fencing developed from traditional swordsmanship, and was one of the events included in the first modern Olympic Games in 1896.

2. Competition bouts take place within a restricted area14m long by 2 m wide, using three types of regulation - length sword; the sabre, the foil,  and the Epee

3. points are awarded for hits to specific target areas on the body. In the modern sport, these are registered electronically

4. Protective jackets, masks and gloves are essential for the competitors' safety.
