The most important thing to remember is that rest and
relaxation shouldn’t be treats reserved for special occasions, but instead
normal parts of our everyday lives. You don’t have to earn your right to rest
or relax, you deserve those things just by being you. And especially during
these summer days let’s claim our power and value, through action, and through
rest and relaxation.
Check in with yourself each morning and evening to see how
you're feeling and if there's anything you need. Sometimes a few minutes of
mindfulness, a short walk, or a nice relaxing bath can do wonders. Try making a
list of some feel-good activities and plan them out for the weeks ahead.
Getting in touch with your artistic side can help you feel
more calm and relaxed. Try painting, drawing, making crafts, playing a
musical instrument, dancing, baking, or sewing. Try not to worry too much about
the finished product. Just focus on enjoying yourself.
As your calendar fills with summer activities,
remember to schedule some downtime for yourself. It doesn’t have to be anything
too time-consuming (though a week or two at the beach would be lovely), a
weekly yoga session or an hour with a good book and no other distractions will
do.
Give your scrolling finger a rest this summer and take
time to connect with real people and environments every now and then. Your
social media feeds will survive without you for a little while, and just think
of how much you’ll have to report when you plug back in!
