SUNDAY BRUNCH - A TASTY WAY TO SOCIALISE

A meal eaten in the late morning that is a combination of breakfast and lunch but it can extend to as late as 3 pm. The word is a portmanteau of breakfast and lunch.

Brunch is especially popular during the weekends when people may have more leisure time. For weekend brunches, a common timeframe is between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

Brunch , as you probably know, is a word made up of two words, breakfast and lunch, and it is a fun word to use. As a general rule, brunch is served between 11.00am and  3 p.m. between the hours of the morning and the afternoon.

The word “brunch” was coined by British writer Guy Beringer in an 1895 article in Hunter's Weekly.

He felt tired after long, large traditional post-church meals and suggested possibly something lighter. You know, breakfast with a lunch flare.

He argued that instead of the post-church early dinner that was typical in England at that time, there should be a hybrid of breakfast and lunch served around noon for “Saturday-night carousers” to enjoy.

Although the exact origin of brunches is a mystery, some say it was started by the Catholics who created brunches as a means of gathering after church service. Many had brunches as post church Sunday meals at the time.

Brunch occurs in late morning or very early afternoon. Food served almost always includes an egg dish of some kind, pastry, and fruit. There are many clever ideas for brunch cuisine. Many include small sandwiches, bagels, fruit salads, quick breads.

There is debate how the meal itself came about. Some historians credit the English hunting tradition of large pre-hunt breakfasts, while others feel it was due to Catholics who would fast before Mass and then eat a large lunch after church.

Some food historians think that the meal has its roots in England's hunt breakfasts—lavish multi-course meals that featured a smorgasbord of goodies such as chicken livers, eggs, meats, bacon, fresh fruit and sweets.

Brunch is a meal, sometimes accompanied by alcoholic drinks (typically champagne or a cocktail), taken sometime in the late morning or early afternoon – the universally accepted time is 10am-1pm. The meal originated in the British hunt breakfast.

The word “brunch” is a combination of “breakfast” and “lunch” – a breakfast-lunch hybrid if you will. It is typically eaten in lieu of these two separate meals. The low-energy culture around brunch has turned it into a wholesome meal in itself and is usually served from late morning to afternoon.

The main purpose for brunch is to have a somewhat large, casual but fancy meal with some typical “breakfast foods” around noon or even 2 pm on weekends.

Brunch is often a social meal with friends and/or relatives. It's a chance to hang out, have a few drinks (alcoholic or not) and a long, relaxing meal on a non-work/school day.

Brunch's mid-morning timing also offers social flexibility. It's a meal that accommodates both early birds and night owls. Whether you're meeting friends or family, brunch can fit into various schedules, making it an ideal choice for gatherings.
