The idea of happiness according to Leo Tolstoy: A quiet secluded life in the country, with the possibility of being useful to people to whom it is easy to do good, and who are not accustomed to have it done to them; then work which one hopes may be of some use; then rest, nature, books, music, love for one's neighbor — such is my idea of happiness.
Leo Tolstoy adds that - Joy can only be real if people
look upon their life as a service and have a definite object in life outside
themselves and their personal happiness. One of the first conditions of happiness is that the link between Man and
Nature shall not be broken.
Tolstoy believed that a person's inner life was more important than their
external life. People must be sensitive to
other people's needs. He demonstrated through his novels that reaching out to
and assisting other people is the ultimate source of fulfillment.
