An adventure story is a genre of literature that features a protagonist going on an adventure of some kind. It is often considered to be escapist literature due to the fact that the stories sometimes take place in exotic, interesting, and dangerous locations.

In an adventure story, someone leaves everything he or she knows, faces danger and excitement along the way, and with a little luck, gets to his or her final destination safely and with a story to tell. Adventure stories have been around since Homer's Iliad and Odyssey.

A good adventure story has the ability to draw us into a world we might otherwise never explore. We come to care about the characters and the things that are important to them. We visit places we would normally never choose to go and sometimes glimpse a little spark of adventure inside us we didn't know was there.

Adventuring not only expands your mind by building up your bravery, but is also an opportunity to grow and learn. New environments and cultures are packed full of meaningful life lessons that you might not be exposed to in your everyday life. Adventures expand the way we see and interact with the world.
