TRADITIONAL CRAFTS OF ARUNACHALPRADESH

Hidden amongst its verdant valleys are Arunachal's tribal villages offering a dynamic insight into the fashioning of this land and its people. Arunachal Pradesh is one of the huge and famous state in  north east of India.

The rich tribal heritage  makes Arunachal an ancient treasure house of cultural importance. The traditional crafts are a feature that makes it project its glory.

The Monpas are highly skilled in weaving and make some of the most brilliant carpets and shawls in the North-East. Some of the famous weaved items are  jackets, bags, Mishmi shawls, Sherdukpen shawls, skirts and scarves. The Carpets of Arunachal Pradesh with attractive colours and designs are in great demand by the tourists.  Hand woven products are largely available in the Bomdils and Tawang craft centers.   The Apatanis too are known for their weaving and their shawls and jackets make great souvenirs to take home.   They also make hand - made paper from the bark of the Daphne Botanica plant found in their jungles.

The cane and bamboo industry of the state has made a name for itself. As a matter of fact most of the domestic requirements are made of these materials. Hats, baskets, cane vessels, cane belts – woven and plain, bamboo mugs with carvings, a wide variety of ornaments and jewelry items are all crafted by workmen.

Arunachal Pradesh is also famous for its colourful masks, agarbatti (joss sticks) and leather items. Tangkha paintings, a beautiful religious art form whose primary subject is the Buddha, also make for lovely mementos for friends and family.

Do pick any one of these products and encourage traditional crafts .
