SYNONYMS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Synonyms are words which bear the same or similar meanings. How ever, there are no true synonyms as they have slight shades of difference in their meanings. There are words that cane be substituted for other words, but they almost never have exactly the same meaning in the same context because etymology, orthography, phonic qualities, ambiguous meanings and usage make them unique. In selecting a synonym, one must ensure that it is appropriate to the kind of writing one is engaged in.

Examples :

1. bubble - froth, foam, boil

2. curious - inquisitive, prying, peculiar

3. keen - sharp, astute, weep

4. haunt - frequent, regular, resort

5. pull -  draw, tug, lure
