FEW IMPORTANT POINTS TO NOTE ON "VOICE" IN ENGLISH GRAMMAR

Voice describes the relationship between the action that a verb expresses and the subject or the object.

When the subject is the doer of the action, the verb is said to be in the active voice.

When the subject is the target of the action, the verb is said to be in the passive voice.

In changing a sentence from active to passive, the subject and the object switch grammatical roles.

The inclusion of "By" in the passive voice indicates the change in state.

The passive voice is less usual than the active voice.

Sometimes the subject of the active voice, which becomes the object of the passive voice, is omitted.

Examples:

1. The cat ate the mouse

The mouse was eaten by the cat

2. Nicky will buy a new computer

A new computer will be bought by Nicky.
