“A book is a garden, an orchard, a storehouse, a party, a
company by the way, a counselor, a multitude of counselors.” – Charles
Baudelaire
At
any point in Life, books come in support for us in the form of friend, philosopher,
guide etc. They take different forms according to our demands and situations.
When we are happy and successful, books help us to strength ourselves to the
core and aid us to be consistent. When we are facing an adversity, they stand
by us and help us to gauge the situation and direct us to take a forward step
in the right direction at the right time so as to face the challenge with positivity
and come out with flying colours
At
time of an adversity books act like counsellors and provide us a simple way to
handle the problem. The
primary role of a counselor is to assist clients in reaching their
optimal level of psychosocial functioning through resolving negative patterns,
prevention, rehabilitation, and improving quality of life. There are many
books that deal with adversity and the ways to overcome it. Reading those books
gives resilience to over come the challenge with positive
energy.
Self- help books do contribute a lot at this juncture, they show us the path that’s best suitable keeping in mind all the issues surrounding the problem. These books are available for almost every situation ranging from education, career guidance, family, marriage, substance abuse, rehabilitation and mental health. Books are there for every scene in our lives, the major caution is that we need to pick up the right book. Then chances of getting the right answer is more.
“Be careful about reading health
books. You may die of a misprint.” Mark Twain
There are numerous benefits with
books, few we may not realise immediately as the results are of long term
interest. Books always take us towards prosperity in life, degree of it may
vary depending on the individual’s efforts.
“Writing and reading decrease our sense of isolation. They deepen
and widen and expand our sense of life: They feed the soul. When writers make
us shake our heads with the exactness of their prose and their truths, and even
make us laugh about ourselves or life, our buoyancy is restored. We are given a
shot at dancing with, or at least clapping along with, the absurdity of life,
instead of being squashed by it over and over again. It’s like singing on a
boat during a terrible storm at sea. You can’t stop the raging storm, but
singing can change the hearts and spirits of the people who are together on
that ship.” – Anne Lamott
Well-said!
