FOUR WOMEN WRITERS OF INDIAN ENGLISH

1.    Nayantara Sahgal:  Daughter of Vijaya Lakshmi pandit and Sahitya Akademi award winner. Her English novel RICH LIKE US won the award in the year 1986.

2.    Kamala Das: She was an Indian English Poet. Her first book of poetry was “Summer in Calcutta”. She was shortlisted for Nobel Prize in Literature in 1984.

3.    Sarojini Naidu: She was well known for her title “Nightingale of India”. “In the bazaars of Hyderabad” remains one of her most popular poems.

4.     Anita Desai: She is an Indian Novelist and she has been shortlisted for the Booker prize three times. She was awarded Sahitya Akademi award for her novel “Fire on the mountain” in the year 1978.
