FROM STRUGGLES TO STRENGTH : EMBRACING PERSONAL GROWTH

Life is an ever-evolving journey, a classroom without walls where each experience, whether joyful or painful, imparts invaluable lessons. From our earliest days, we absorb knowledge, sometimes without fully comprehending it, only to realize its significance as we mature.

As children, we often accept teachings at face value, not fully grasping their depth. However, adulthood brings a wave of experiences that challenge and deepen our understanding. These experiences, whether triumphant or trying, act as catalysts for personal growth.

One profound lesson life teaches is the importance of self-improvement. In our pursuit of growth, we may encounter skepticism or unsolicited advice, even from those closest to us. It's disheartening when our struggles are met with judgment rather than support. Yet, these moments underscore the necessity of resilience and self-belief.

It's essential to recognize that not all guidance stems from genuine concern. Some individuals may project their insecurities or unfulfilled aspirations onto us, offering advice that aligns more with their perspectives than our realities. In such instances, discerning well-intentioned counsel from mere opinion becomes crucial.

True allies are those who stand by us without judgment, offering support rooted in empathy and understanding. They celebrate our victories and provide solace during setbacks, reminding us of our worth irrespective of external achievements.

In embracing life's lessons, we cultivate resilience, empathy, and a deeper understanding of ourselves and others. Each challenge surmounted and each insight gained adds to our personal growth, guiding us toward a more authentic and fulfilling existence.

Lesson Learned: Personal growth is essential, as stagnation invites judgment from others, even those closest to us.

This reflects the idea that self-improvement is not just for personal fulfillment but also influences how others perceive and interact with us.

As noted by Henry Ward Beecher, "We should not judge people by their peak of excellence, but by the distance they have traveled from the point where they started."

Embracing continual growth aids us in navigating life's challenges and the judgments that may arise from others.

NOT JUST LUCK : THE DISCIPLINE BEHIND THE DAILY GRIND

People often tell me, "You're lucky; your life has been a smooth sail. Just relax—everything will fall into place on its own." These are the most common phrases I hear about my life.

However, I believe that life requires effort. Even something as simple as keeping a mirror clean takes intention. We all need to make efforts, not just to shine the mirrors in our homes, but also to manage the essential tasks in life. Often, others overlook the small steps we intentionally take to meet life's demands, interpreting it all as a smooth sail.

My life hasn't been filled with grand adventures, but my sincere routines, disciplined lifestyle, and consistent habits have all contributed to the life I lead today. With the grace of God, the support of my family, and the encouragement of my well-wishers, I've managed everything—from daily household tasks to pursuing a spot in the India Book of Records—through small, deliberate steps in the right direction.

Maintenance matters a lot. Take, for example, using Colin to make mirrors sparkle. The cute smile or the confidence someone gains when looking at themselves comes from the little effort I put in to clean and wipe the mirror every day after brushing my teeth. Yet, people often fail to notice that effort. They simply assume everything happens on its own. Comments like, "You're lucky; your mirror's quality is quite high and never loses its shine for a long time," overlook the maintenance behind the scenes.

Maintaining relationships also requires effort. Small actions like greeting people on their birthdays and wedding anniversaries, sending messages through WhatsApp, responding to invitations, checking in on someone unwell, visiting them if possible, or extending help when needed—all these gestures matter. Avoiding gossip and not disclosing personal information or shared secrets to others are also crucial. While not everyone is part of my close-knit circle, not everyone is a hater or enemy either.

Whether it's maintaining things, relationships, or my professional life, my conscious and intentional efforts to improve have brought me to where I am today. It's not a smooth sail; I'm fortunate to be in a position to make these efforts, and with sincerity, things have fallen into place to some extent. I pray to be blessed with the ability to continue striving to succeed and reach an admirable place in life. Even if others may not notice or recognize my efforts, I know that nothing comes easily without them. Everything requires attention and dedication.

THE ILLUSION OF FREEDOM: RETHINKING ADULTHOOD

As a child, I often believed that adults led happier lives. They didn't have homework, faced no punishments for disobedience, and enjoyed complete freedom—no one dictated their actions. They could do whatever they pleased without seeking permission from elders. Observing these aspects, I longed to grow up quickly, thinking adulthood would bring greater joy and freedom.

However, as I've matured, my perspective has shifted. I now realize that the carefree days of childhood were the truly joyful moments of life. While I appreciate certain aspects of being an adult, such as independence and self-determination, the simplicity and lightheartedness of childhood hold a special place in my heart. Today, responsibilities often overshadow the unburdened happiness I once took for granted.

Insights on Childhood and Adulthood Happiness:

Research supports the notion that childhood is often a period of greater happiness compared to adulthood. Children typically experience fewer responsibilities and stressors, allowing them to live more in the moment. A study by the Centre for Longitudinal Studies found that emotional well-being during childhood and adolescence significantly impacts future life satisfaction, indicating that happier children tend to become happier adults.

Conversely, adulthood brings increased responsibilities, such as career pressures and financial obligations, which can contribute to stress and decreased well-being. The concept of the "hedonic treadmill" suggests that adults often return to a baseline level of happiness despite positive or negative life events, making sustained increases in happiness challenging.

Interestingly, some adults seek to recapture the joy of childhood through hobbies and interests that evoke nostalgia, such as collecting toys or engaging in playful activities. This "kidult" trend highlights a desire to reconnect with the simplicity and happiness of youth.

In summary, while adulthood offers certain freedoms, the unencumbered joy of childhood is a unique and cherished experience. Recognizing and valuing these moments can provide comfort and perspective as we navigate the complexities of adult life.

THE UNSUNG HERO OF OUR HOMES : THE DOORMAT

An object we all use extensively in our homes, regardless of the area, is the humble doormat.

The life story of a doormat is quite intriguing. Its journey often begins with rough and tough times, enduring hard surfaces and countless footsteps. It bears the brunt of dirty soles, absorbing dust and grime until its owner decides to offer it a much-needed bath.

Historically, doormats were crafted from natural materials like coconut leaves and bamboo. These early versions served the essential purpose of keeping dust and dirt at bay, especially during the rainy season. Over time, doormats have evolved significantly, becoming indispensable household items. Following the era of leaf mats, jute bags were repurposed into mats, and nowadays, even old rags find new life as doormats.

Today, doormats are available in a variety of materials, including cotton, rubber, synthetic fibers, and plastic, and come in diverse shapes, colors, and sizes. They have become essential in various parts of the house—gardens, bathrooms, living rooms—ensuring no wet floors or visible dirt, thus maintaining cleanliness and safety.

All thanks to these doormats, our homes remain cleaner and more organized. Moreover, sustainable mats are now available, catering to the needs of both humans and the environment. Choosing eco-friendly options like coir, jute, or recycled materials supports a healthier planet.

Remember to change your doormats regularly, wash them thoroughly, and dry them in the sun to ensure a healthy home environment.

HAVE YOU EVER REALISED?

Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart." — Winnie the Pooh

Winnie the Pooh and his friend Christopher Robin sit by the window, Eeyore beside them. Pooh turns to his friend and says, "Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart."

This sentiment resonates deeply. The concept behind "Sometimes the smallest things" encompasses a spectrum of related ideas:

Gratitude and Appreciation: Acknowledging the value of small gestures fosters a deep sense of gratitude. This isn't just about materialistic appreciation, but a mindful recognition of the positive influence of small acts.

In life, it's often the little things that hold the most meaning and become our favorite memories. Growing up, I remember our family dinners most vividly. Then there were the summer vacations spent with cousins at our grandparents' home—playing games in our own world, staging dramas in the front yard, enjoying delicious home-cooked meals, sitting in a circle on the floor, discussing our favorite things, and making shopping lists for the village fair.

These moments enriched our lives and guided us toward brighter days. Now, when I see little ones playing around our apartment complex, the joy of those memories returns. Truly, "Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart."

What do you think? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.

ORANGE

The rising sun cheers all to start the day with liveliness.
Carrots and pumpkins feed all to feel the day with abundant energy.
Marigolds in the vase welcome all to face the day with passion and assertiveness.

THE BOOK OF KINDNESS

Teaching kindness to children is essential for their personal development and for fostering a compassionate society.

By prioritizing kindness in education and daily life, we equip children with the tools to lead fulfilling lives and contribute positively to the world around them.

Teach your children poetry; it opens the mind, lends grace to wisdom, and makes the heroic virtues hereditary.   – Walter Scott.

Following the statement, the author, with great care and caution, presents a story of kindness to children through poetry. Introducing poetry via a story is a commendable effort as it requires both strong diction and plot.

This book - THE BOOK OF KINDNESS BY Egor Klopenko, features 8 chapters across 36 pages, presenting the complete story in a poetic form. It includes illustrations by Ksenia Panteleeva and is translated by Alena Slepova

Egor Klopenko is a Russian writer, an independent artist, and the founder of a theatre in St. Petersburg.

The author in this book initially explains what matters most, what he thinks to write, and how to write for children and then slowly creeps into the serene world of kindness. He seamlessly introduces kindness as a member of the family, highlighting its positive impact when present and the void it leaves when absent.

Next, the author delves into children's dreams, pondering who embodies the greatest kindness—the dog, the elephant, the whale, the forest, or his family members. These reflections are truly childlike and resonate deeply with young hearts. It's a touching and accessible way to impart lessons, making it easy for children to understand.

In the subsequent chapters, 'Star' highlights the kindness that nature bestows upon humanity. Following this, 'Gift' portrays a young boy's act of kindness toward his mother. Each segment of the book exemplifies the author's masterful storytelling, all aimed at resonating with children.

Chapters like 'The Kind Wings' and 'Seed' are innovative in introducing kindness to children. The author is immensely successful in conveying the theme of kindness to children through completely new ideas, methods, presentation, and a whole new set of ways to impart kindness in the lives of Gen Alpha.

Finally, the book answers WHAT IS KINDNESS?  In a simple yet subtle way, covering various walks of life and leaves a lasting impact.

Over all the book urges that Kindness is a valuable trait that benefits both individuals and society as a whole. It fosters positive relationships, improves mental health, and creates a more harmonious world. By practicing kindness, you can make a positive impact on yourself and those around you.

Here are few lines that make you realise why kindness matters the most:

If my children grow up to be

Nothing but brave and kind

I will consider them a smashing success

Because while beauty and wealth are often coveted

And intelligence respected

Most of the atrocities in this world

Could have been prevented

If more people were simply

Brave and kind.

DO gift your children a copy of the book. It will definitely be a nurturing step in your parenting.

IF RUSKIN BOND WAS NOT IN DEHRADUN.....

Ruskin Bond's Birthday is today - May 19th. One thought struck me this morning,-

IF RUSKIN BOND WAS NOT IN DEHRADUN, WE AS READERS WOULD HAVE MISSED THE CHARM OF DEHRADUN. Isn't it? (Don’t know how many hill stations were longing to be described in the words of Ruskin, and are envying Dehradun. Make a slight guess.)

If Ruskin Bond hadn't lived in and written about Dehradun, readers would have lost a unique lens through which to experience the city's charm and the beauty of the Himalayas.

His work captures the essence of Dehradun's serene atmosphere, colonial heritage, and the vibrant connection between the city and the surrounding hills.

Here's how Ruskin Bond's presence in Dehradun enriched our reading experience:

Authentic Voice:

Ruskin Bond's firsthand experience in Dehradun allowed him to weave authentic stories and descriptions, making his work more relatable and impactful.

Vivid Descriptions:

His writing beautifully captures the details of Dehradun's natural surroundings, including the mountains, trees, and rivers, bringing the city to life for readers.

Nostalgia and Familiarity:

Many of his works evoke a sense of nostalgia and familiarity, particularly for those who have lived in or visited Dehradun, allowing them to rediscover the city's charm.

Portrayal of Human Relationships:

Ruskin Bond's stories also showcase the human relationships that shape Dehradun's cultural fabric, highlighting the bonds between people and their environment.

Preservation of Heritage:

His writings act as a form of historical preservation, capturing the essence of Dehradun's past and ensuring its unique character is not forgotten.

In essence, without Ruskin Bond's literary contributions, the unique charm and cultural tapestry of Dehradun might have remained underappreciated in literature.

HOW CHOOSING IDEAL SILVER PLATES FOR MEALS HELP EATING

Choosing ideal silver plates for meals can enhance digestion, reduce digestive discomfort, and create a more enjoyable dining experience. Silver's antibacterial properties help prevent bacterial growth, and its cooling effect can aid digestion. Silver's neutral taste also ensures it doesn't alter the natural flavors of food, subtly enhancing the dining experience.

Here's a more detailed look at how silver plates can help with eating:

1. Improved Digestion:

Silver is believed to promote better digestion by aiding in the secretion of digestive enzymes.

Its cooling effect on the digestive system can help soothe and reduce digestive discomfort.

2. Hygienic and Bacteria-Free:

Silver's inherent antibacterial properties inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria, viruses, and fungi, making it a hygienic choice for plates.

This helps ensure that the food served on silver plates remains free from bacteria and contaminants.

3. Enhances Food Flavors:

Silver's neutral taste doesn't interfere with the natural flavors of food, allowing the true taste of the dish to be enjoyed.

This can lead to a more enjoyable and satisfying dining experience.

4. Temperature Regulation:

Silver has thermal conductivity, which can help regulate the temperature of food.

This means that hot dishes can stay warm and cold dishes can remain cool, contributing to a more pleasant dining experience.

5. Other Potential Benefits:

Some traditional practices suggest that silver can help balance the body's doshas (Ayurvedic concept), potentially improving overall well-being.

Silver is also believed to improve eyesight and brain function.

While silver plates offer numerous potential benefits, it's important to note that the claims about silver's effects on digestion and overall health are largely based on traditional practices and beliefs.
